The defeat of the government in getting the constitution amendment bill passed in the Lok Sabha was perhaps the first after 2014, the source says. Though, as per many political observers, it was a tactical move by the government to present three bills on the floor of the house for discussions, when assembly elections in some states are on a high pitch, the loss has gone deeply in the process of management on the floor - its failure. It's said that government managers were in touch with more than 50/55 members to convince them to abstain during the voting process, according to the source. They had high hopes for Akhilesh Yadav, but this did not materialise, the source says.

Just before the fallout, the government got a hint of defeat of the bill, and perhaps the government adopted B solution and directed all women party leaders to do agitations, etc., to put the opposition in the bracket if an anti-women empowerment source. This is likely to travel to the states where polling is due shortly, and the BJP, through its leaders and utilising a well-oiled publicity set-up and social media platforms, would not leave any stone unturned to paint the opposition as anti-women, the source says.
