Smell of Anti Incumbency Against BJP In Assam?

The present Assam CM, Sarma was very happy with the way electioneering was going in the state. He never hesitated to criticise the other communities, probably forgetting that a major part of the population that was other than Hindu is also in the state, the source says. In his enthusiasm, instead of speaking against the floating Muslim population, especially from Bangladesh, he started speaking against Muslims, according to a source. Later, perhaps after interference from the centre he stopped criticising Muslims directly, the source says. In Bodoland, he distributed tickets to ex-Congressmen in good numbers, which has annoyed the BJP cadre as well as the RSS people and the presence of Susmita Dev of TMC is also playing a very important factor against the BJP in the areas, sources say.

The former CM, Sarbananda Sonowal, of the Sonowal Kachari Tribal community, categorically criticised the present CM and said that his community has been ignored in the distribution of tickets, which is also affecting prospects, given the 6.5% population in Assam, according to a source.  The presence of CM of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma‘s party in the fray is also affecting the election. 

Initially, it was presumed that both parties were indirectly helping the BJP, but later surveys indicate that the candidates are damaging the BJP's prospects, a source says.  So, as many claim, the Assam elections would be a cake walk for the BJP, but that is not the case, and the party's leaders have to sweat a lot to regain power, a source says.
