The senior Pawar of NCP (Sharad) is completing his second term in the Rajya Sabha on 2nd of April. Going by the strength of the combined MVA, there is a possibility of winning one seat, that too if all the MVA constituents remain united and there is no cross-voting, sources say.
In April, 7 Rajya Sabha seats are likely to be available for renomination and the BJP with its strength and that of allies is likely to win 6 seats out of the seven easily source says. Fadnavis, the CM of Maharashtra, has emerged as one of the very strong and tactful leaders of the party and will possibly try to grab the last seventh seat as well, unless a compromise formula emerges in favour of senior Pawar, a source says. After the tragic and sudden death of Ajit Pawar in air crash, his party is getting lots of sympathetic treatment and it can not be ruled out that both the faction comes together because of a sympathy wave for junior Pawar’s death.
Under these circumstances getting one seat for senior Pawar would not be very difficult source says. But during the recently held elections of local bodies, all the factions of MVA tried their luck separately and were defeated very badly in the entire Maharashtra and if the same strategy of the constituents continues MVA is not likely to get even one seat source says. Probably sensing these problems the senior leaders of the constituents have already started negotiations behind the curtain to develop confidence amongst the constituents to face the challenges ahead source says. The senior Pawar openly said that he is not ready for the third term but other leaders know that he is the main attraction and guiding force to bring all factions together under one umbrella source says.
