The Congress Party was on the verge of losing the Rajya Sabha elections in Haryana. Rahul Gandhi's close associate Raju suggested the name of Karmveer Baudha, and he became Rahul Gandhi's personal choice, the source says. Prior to the official announcement, the party leadership had not discussed this candidate within party circles or with senior state leaders, according to a source familiar with the matter. Although the party leadership was aware of potential attempts to sway votes through cross-voting or other tactics to ensure the candidate's defeat, all 37 elected representatives were kept in a secret location to prevent undue influence. On the day of voting, nine votes were either disqualified or cast for other candidates, leaving Buddha with only 28 votes. This was short of the required 31 votes needed for victory, a source confirmed. Fortunately, one vote from a BJP member was disqualified, allowing Buddha to secure the seat. Most of the disqualified votes or votes cast against the official candidate originated from the strongholds of senior party leaders, according to the source. The party is now planning to take strict measures to prevent similar issues in future elections, the source added.
