The Congress party is trying very hard to come back to power on an anti-incumbency wave against the present state government. Though Sarma, CM, is trying hard to play on religious sentiment and Bangladeshi agenda, the Congress party is also matching the campaign movement on different subjects and hitting hard at the present state government, sources say. The most damaging steps taken by the BJP are to take the top leaders of the Congress into their fold, the source says. Now, this time, the sitting MP of Congress, Praddut Bordoloi, has changed his mind and joined the BJP, the source says.

This is a big blow after the state's shift, another senior leader source says. He has also been given a ticket to contest the election, but a source says the present CM is not happy with this development and thinks this is likely to dent his authority, but is not in a position to utter even a single word against the move, the source says. This has changed the entire scenario in the state, and the contests became very interesting, according to a source.
