It's a sad state of affairs in the Archaeological Survey of India(ASI)- an institution responsible for restoring, protecting and maintaining the cultural heritage of the country for future generations to come, is almost running with less than 50% of sanctioned staff in almost 38 divisions, a source says. It has become impossible to protect the protected monuments effectively, and continue excavations, explorations, etc. to find out the hidden history under the mounds, the source says. Even the reports prepared by the archaeologists with great difficulty and pains are not out yet and are kept on a shelf in some record rooms, the source says. The reports, which could have thrown new light on the history, are thrown in the dust for want of printers, etc., the source says. The department does not have funds to buy printers to make copies at least, if not possible to get it printed for researchers and commentators, the source says. If such curtailment is due to unknown reasons, the reasons need to be looked into and remedial steps required urgently for the interest of the common people, the source says.
