    The Centre has given a six-month extension of service tenure to the Incumbent West Bengal DGP, Siddh Nath Gupta, IPS, 1992 batch. This is a significant development in West Bengal, which is currently in the middle of its Assembly elections, and the Election Commission of India recently appointed Gupta as West Bengal DGP.
